1. What do I do if my trash or recycling are not collected as expected?

If your items were not collected as expected, you may contact Public Works (262) 375-5325 or email and we will contact Waste Management on your behalf. You may also contact Waste Management directly at 888-960-0008.

2. What can be placed in the trash cart?

Typical Items collected include:

Household refuse: It is optional to place household/kitchen refuse/waste in bags, however carts will remain cleaner longer if a bag is used and less debris will blow out of the cart when emptied

Carpeting / furniture / lumber: All items must fit into the cart. If items are too large for the cart, you will need to arrange a special pickup with                                                           Waste Management - (888) 960-0008.     (Fees will apply)

Construction waste: Provided the resident performed their own work and the materials are placed in the cart and do not prevent the lid from from being closed

Paint cans (latex): Paint should be in a dry or hardened state. Floor dry or kitty litter can be used to achieve this, cans should then be placed in the cart

Christmas wreaths and garland (trees are chipped by village crews separately)

3. What type of items cannot be placed in the trash cart?

Not collected:

• Toxic / hazardous waste 
• Medicine or medical supplies 
• Yard waste 
• Auto parts / fluids / Tires
• Batteries (except alkaline), fluorescent tubes/bulbs, or thermostats 
• Explosive materials or ammunition 
• Electronics
• Appliances

4. How do I dispose of a mattress?

This is one of the most common questions. Mattresses are large and if the company you've purchased a new mattress from does not haul the old one away, what can you do with it? The Village of Grafton does not pick up or routinely offer a location for drop-offs of mattresses. 

The Village does offer several "dumpster days" during summer months. Please see the Recycling Calendar for dates and details.

Ozaukee Iron & Metal (728 Schmitz Dr - Port Washington, 262-284-4060) accepts mattresses for a fee.

5. How do I get rid of bulky items?

Large Items/Bulk Service

• Large items can be taken to the Orchard Ridge site, N96 W13073 Countyline Rd in Menomonee Falls for a nominal fee Monday - Friday; 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. • Large items can also be taken to Ozaukee Iron & Metal, 728 Schmitz Drive, Port Washington, for a nominal fee Monday - Friday 7:00 am to 4:30 pm and Saturdays 7:00 am to 12:00 pm. • Waste Management will also provide a curbside bulk pickup, upon request, for an additional fee, call (888) 960-0008.

• A dumpster will be available to VILLAGE OF GRAFTON residents at the Municipal Services Facility. In 2023 the dumpster will be available on the THIRD FRIDAY in June (16th), July (21th), & August (18th) from 7:00 AM to noon. Proof of Village residency is required and the fee is $25 per load. 
•  To make use of this dumpster, stop in the Municipal Services Facility Office. Staff will verify residency and collect payment.
•  Village staff will inspect the load to ensure items being disposed of are not banned from the landfill.
•  What fits into a standard pickup truck shall be considered a load.

6. How do I dispose of electronics?

The Public Works Department, 675 North Green Bay Road, accepts electronics for recycling. Electronics include but are not limited to: computers, monitors, printers, DVD players, VCR's, and stereos. Electronics will be accepted at the office with proof of Village residency.

Televisions are accepted, however there is fee:

$35 if the TV is 30 inches or smaller / $45 if the TV is over 30 inches

All monitors are $10.

There is no charge for all other electronics.

7. How do I dispose of large appliances?

The Public Works Department, 675 North Green Bay Road, will accept all major household appliances including:

• Air Conditioners / Dehumidifiers / Refrigerators
• Microwaves / Water Coolers / Freezers
• Water Heaters / Washers / Stoves
• Oven/Ranges / Dryers / Dishwashers

There is no charge for this service, however you must register in the front office and be able to unload the appliance without assistance.

8. How do I dispose of hazardous waste?

9. How do I dispose of batteries?
