Garbage Collection

Garbage collection is provided to:

  • Single family residences
  • Apartment buildings with four or less dwelling units
  • Small businesses that generate no more than one 96-gallon refuse container per week

All garbage must be placed into your refuse cart and placed at the curb on your designated day for collection.

Place your cart at the end of your driveway or on the grass between the sidewalk and curb. The carts shall be 3 feet apart from each other and at least 3 feet away from any post, mailbox, street light, or other object.

Carts shall face the road as indicated by the arrow on the cart (handles toward the house).

The Village is paying for a fully automated collection system, which means that the driver should not have to get out of the truck to complete the collection. There is a mechanical arm that reaches out from the side of the truck, grabs the cart, dumps it, and then returns the cart to the curb. This is why it is so important to have your carts out correctly.

Questions regarding garbage collection should be directed to Waste Management at (888) 960-0008 or the Public Works Department at (262) 375-5325.

Items collected include:

  • Household refuse
    • It is optional to place household/kitchen refuse/waste in bags, however carts will remain cleaner longer if a bag is used and less debris will blow out of the cart when emptied
  • Carpeting / furniture / lumber
  •   All items must fit into the cart. If items are too large for the cart, you will need to arrange a special pickup with Waste        Management - (888) 960-0008. (Fees will apply)
  • Construction waste
    • Provided the resident performed their own work and the materials are placed in the cart and do not prevent the lid from from being closed
  • Paint cans (latex)
    • Paint should be in a dry or hardened state. Floor dry or kitty litter can be used to achieve this, cans should then be placed in the cart
  • Christmas wreaths and garland (trees are chipped by village crews separately)

 Not collected:

  • Toxic / hazardous waste
  • Medicine or medical supplies
  • Yard waste
  • Auto parts / fluids / Tires
  • Batteries (see below), fluorescent tubes/bulbs, or thermostats
  • Explosive materials or ammunition

Do not place anything outside the cart - it will not be collected.
