Charles Wenten was appointed as the Village of Grafton Chief of Police on May 5, 2003. Prior to that appointment, Chief Wenten served thirteen years (1990-2003) with the Village of Brown Deer Police Department. During his service to the Village of Brown Deer, Chief Wenten worked as a Patrol Officer, Firearms Instructor, Detective, Detective Lieutenant in charge of investigations, Patrol Lieutenant in charge of a patrol shift, Support Services Captain of Police and Operations Captain of Police. Prior to his service with the Village of Brown Deer Police Department, Chief Wenten served with the City of Platteville Police Department (1988-1990). During his time with the City of Platteville Police Department, he was a Patrol Officer, Shift Commander and S.W.A.T. team member.

Chief Wenten holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, in Resource Management and Environmental Law Enforcement. Chief Wenten is a graduate of the 33rd Management College hosted by the Southwestern Police Institute and the FBI Law Enforcement Law Enforcement Executive Development training.

Chief Wenten is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police Association and the Wisconsin Chiefs of Police Association.
